It helps relieve symptoms and shorten duration of upper respiratory tract infections (URTIs), including laryngitis, tonsillitis, the common cold, and other catarrhal conditions of the nose and sinus. It is most effective during active infections or used as prevention during cold and flu season. Echinacea has been used for centuries as a stimulant to the immune system. Echinacea activates the macrophages, key players in the immune response which engulf and digest the pathogens as well as stimulate and recruit other cells of the immune system to act as antimicrobial warriors.
