Earth works

April 22 is Earth Day, established as a time to consider how we can better protect and care for the planet that nurtures all life on it.

Back story

WHEN EARTH DAY was established in 1970, by Wisconsin Senator Gaylord Nelson, there was no Environmental Protection Agency or any legal or regulatory agencies to protect the environment. Earth Day was created to increase public awareness of and to garner support for the world’s mounting environmental concerns. Today, Earth Day (earthday.org) is widely recognized as a day to take Earth-friendly actions.

To learn more about Costco’s approach to the environment and some ways it is helping, visit Costco.ca's Sustainability Commitment.

GIVING BACK

A special delivery

Costco executives raised $70,000 for Maison de la Famille Vallée-de-la-Gatineau in December 2022. Costco Business Centre employees needed three delivery trucks to transport 28 pallets stacked with staples like cereal, tuna and bath tissue to Maniwaki and Gracefield, Quebec. The contribution assisted over 300 families.

SO MUCH TO SEE

A little big fan

Alicia and Vijay Tahal of Mississauga, Ontario, are big Costco enthusiasts, but their 2-year-old daughter, Isla, is quickly growing into a fan, too. “[She] can’t put the [Connection] down and wants us to read it repeatedly to her,” Alicia says. “So we read the titles on the pages or describe the pictures—which she loves.”
